Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the amount of residual ink accurately and find and exchange time for the ink suitably by a method wherein a bottom part of an ink storing container is formed in a cantilever structure and a strain gauge is adhered to the cantilever to detect the amount of residual ink. CONSTITUTION:A part of a lower case of the ink storing container 20, namely, the parts 20a, 20b, 20c which are respectively parallel to three sides of the case are cut away so that a bottom face 20d is formed in the cantilever structure with a part 20e as a fulcrum. An ink bag 22 for storing an ink 23 is incorporated in the container 20. The bag 22 is placed on the bottom face 20d so that the latter 20d supports the weight of the ink by the cantilever structure. To the bottom face 20d is adhered the strain gauge 24 which detects for detecting the strains of the bottom face 20d which vary in response to the change of the amount of residual ink.
