Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare powdered reclaimed rubber without carrying out a subsequent refining process, by adding a reclaiming agent to powdered vulcanized rubber and by heat-treating them and simultaneously preventing the rubber particles from adhering to each other by using an adhesion-preventing agent.
CONSTITUTION: To 100pts.wt. powdered vulcanized rubber obtained by grinding, e.g., used tires, removing tire cords, etc. from the ground powder and then passing it through a 30 mesh-screen, 5W20pts.wt. reclaiming agent such as tall oil, coumarone or dipentene oil is added under agitation and mixed with the rubber and then 0.5W3pts.wt. metallic chloride such as iron chloride or copper chloride is added to the above mixture to be mixed with it. Subsequently, the mixture thus obtained is heat-treated at a temperature of 200°C or higher and simultaneously agitated with a stirrer with a surfactant or powdered inorganic matter added alone or in combination as adhesion-preventing agents. Thus a good powder state of the reclaimed rubber is attained. By the above process, the powdered reclaimed rubber being fully plasticized and having excellent milling and processing properties and physical properties similar to those of usual reclaimed rubber can be obtained.
