Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve accuracy of plate width by giving the difference of deflection due to the difference of load applied to upper and lower screw down devices and the difference of mill rigidity to the setting value of a controlling system and thereby keeping the vertical roll perpendicular to the rolled stock. CONSTITUTION:Before passing a plate, the amount of deflection of rolling mill at upper and lower screw down devices is determined from rolling reduction and the load applied to the upper and lower screw down devices and mill rigidity. Next, piston displacement of a hydraulic cylinder 3 is determined from the gap of a vertical roll 2 which is determined by rolling reduction. The setting value of controlling system of upper and lower screw down devices is set so that the roll gap is narrowed by the amount of deflection of each of upper and lower screw down devices. Accordingly, the piston displacement of the hydraulic cylinder follows the setting value, and therefore, the amount of deflection due to the load applied to upper and lower screw down devices is compensated by movement of the piston of hydraulic cylinder, and the vertical roll 2 is controlled perpendicularly to the direction of plate width of the rolled stock 1.
