Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an HCN oxidation decomposition catalyst having superior heat resistance and corrosion resistance and long-term high activity by containing >=1 kinds of oxides of Mn, Co, Cr, and if necessary, >=1 kinds of oxides of Ti and Fe as active ingredinent. CONSTITUTION:The catalyst obtained by adding powder alumina or titanium oxide powder to, for example, an aqueous manganese nitrate soln. and kneading the mixture followed by drying and firing is filled in a reactor, through which an HCN- contg. gas is passed. The HCN decomposes to NH3 and CO2, and the NH3 further decomposes to N2 and H2O, so that the gas is made perfectly harmless. If at this time steam of more than equiv. nole of the HCN exists, the decomposition reaction is accelerated.
