Abstract

PURPOSE: To mass-produce self-locking nuts with an extremely simple operation and an inexpensive cost, by caulking the side face of nuts in a die having the same shape as the nut has, when self-locking nuts are manufactured.
CONSTITUTION: Nuts 2 are delivered into a chute 12 having a width which is smaller than the diameter of the circumscribed circle of the nut and larger than the diameter of the inscribed circle, and moved to a prescribed location with a push rod 3. Then, by pins 4 and 4 which position the nuts, the nuts 2 are fixed to a proper location in a die. After the nuts are fixed, an inserting pin 5 is lowered and pushes the nuts 2 into the die. At the same time, a cam 7 pushes a slide 8 inward by the movement of an arm 6 and a punch holder 9 caulks the side face of the nuts 2 by pushing a punch 10, so that an elastic deformation is suruly generated at the central part of a tapped hole at the inner surface of the nut and self-locking nuts are manufactured. Then, the nuts 2 are separated from the die by lifting up the cam 7, and taken out from the chute 1.
