Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a reforming steam at a low cost with a high thermal efficiency, by adding water directly to a product gas obtained by treating a light hydrocarbon in the presence of a specific catalyst at a high temperature, using the generated steam for the conversion of CO and simultaneously recovering the heat from the outlet gas.
CONSTITUTION: Water and a light hydrocarbon, e.g. naphtha, LPG or NG, are preheated in a preheater 9, and the water is partially heated with air in a preheater 15 to give an air-steam mixture, which is then fed to a reforming furnace 23. On the other hand, the light hydrocarbon from the preheater 9 is reformed in the reforming furnace 23 in the presence of an NiO-MgO system catalyst at a pressure of 0.3kg/ cm2.G or less, a liquid space velocity of 0.15W0.30kl/m3 and an outlet temperature of 820W860°C. The high-temperature gas from the furnace 23 is fed into a water supplier 29 to which the remaining water of the preheating water from the preheater 9 is supplied to generate steam. The mixture of the steam with the reformed gas is then converted in a CO converter 35.
