Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide the title operation capable of freeing of the requirement of any major boiler by producing, by the use of the thermal cracking furnace and the rapid- cooling heat exchanger, a steam to be supplied to the hydrocarbon cracking furnace and to the cracked gas-purifying compressor.
CONSTITUTION: An inert heating medium is continuously fed to the raw material feed pipe 2 leading to the thermal cracking furnace 1, heated within the reaction tube 3 of the furnace 1 using the burners installed on the furnace wall, and then introduced into the rapid-cooling heat exchanger 4; where an indirect heat exchange with a high-pressure water is carried out to produce a ca. 130 atm high-pressure steam. The resulting steam is then passed through the super-heating pipe 6 in the furnace 1 to turn it into a superheated steam, which is used in driving two compressors 11 and 12 for the cracked gas (olefins)purification. When the above operation is to be stopped, a gradually decreasing amount of the heating medium is supplied.
