Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a glass tube easy to work thin, stable even at high temp. and having a very low impurity content by synthesizing a quartz glass layer on the inner wall of a quartz glass tube and forming a coat of a heat resistant material on the outer wall of the glass tube.
CONSTITUTION: This invention relates to a glass tube used in a high precisin chemical analysis such as gas chromatography. A high purity quartz glass layer 12 is synthesized by an internally depositing method on the inner wall of a commercially available molten quartz glass tube 11 having a high impurity content, and the layer 12 is converted into transparent glass. When the tube 11 is passed through a heating furnace and spun to a prescribed diameter, a coat of a heat resistant material causing no deterioration even at about 300°C such as a vapor-deposited metallic coat or a coat of polyimide resin or fluororesin is formed on the outer wall of the glass tube 11. Thus, a glass capillary tube for a chemical analysis having high strength, superior heat resistance and a low impurity content is obtd.
