Abstract

PURPOSE:To apparently increase the capacity of a reactive power compensating device, by smoothing an output of the reactive power detector of a load, outputting it through limiting circuit, and controlling the reactive power cmpensating device. CONSTITUTION:A reactive power detector 21 is a detector which answers at a high speed, and detects the reactive power at every semicycle. Its output qF is a signal corresponding to magnitude of the reactive power which is generated by an arc furnace, and corresponds to a difference between a signal qC corresponding to magnitude of reactive power of a phase advance capacitor 4, and reactive power qL which is generated by a reactor 32 of a reactive power compensating device. In this case, an output qFB of a filtering circuit 211 is made to pass through a limiting circuit 212, and an output q'FB is outputted, but when an output of the circuit 211 is smaller than qFB1, q'FB becomes zero, a base portion qFB2-qFB1 is outputted as q'FB between qFB1-qFB2, and when it exceeds qFB2, a constant value of qFB2-qFB1 is outputted as q'FB. Accordingly, a value of qFB2-qFB1 is taken large within a range where a range where power-factor of a system does not become lower than its normal value.
