Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently utilize exhaust heat for heating or the like, by stratifying a sensible-heat-type heat accumulation material and a latent-heat-type heat accumulation material on each other in the exhaust line of an internal combustion engine to perform heat absorption appropriate to the heat accumulation materials.
CONSTITUTION: Exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine comes in through a central exhaust passage 9 as shown by an arrow in the drawing. The exhaust gas is conducted to the outside after giving heat to a sensible-heat-type heat accumulation material 18a laid around the passage 9. Fins 9a in the passage 9 efficiently transfer the heat of the exhaust gas to the material 18a. A cylinder, which contains a latent- heat-type heat accumulation material 9b that is pyrolyzed at high temperature, is provided around the sensible-heat-type heat accumulation material 18a to absorb the exhaust heat through the material 18a to heat tepid water in a tepid water passage 11 so that a vehicle room is heated. Thus, the exhaust gas first heats the sensible-heat-type heat accumulation material 18a so that the peak of the temperature of the gas is cut. For that reason, the latent-heat-type heat accumulation material 9b is protected. According to this constitution, a heat accumulator of high efficiency and durability is provided.
