Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce frequency in use of a master gear and to inspect with higher accuracy and reliability by testing meshing between a substitute master gear with a measured error and a gear to be tested and by correcting the result tested in responce to the error. CONSTITUTION:A master gear is mounted on a supporting member 3, a substitute master gear to a supporting member 16, and an electric motor 13 is driven to enable said gears to rotate in interlock with said motor by a driving gear 12. Thus an amount of a change of a distance between axes is measured with a detector 32 at every minute rotary angle. A correction value C for one rotation of the substitute master gear is stored in a random access memory 59 at each minute angle. Then a gear to be detected is fitted to the supporting member 3, is meshed with the substitute master gear, thereby an amount of a change of a distance between axes is measured with a detector 32 during the gear to be measured rotates. Further by synchronizing pulse output signals from rotary encoders 14 and 26 at each minute angle, substracting an error correction value of a supporting part and a measured value of an error of the substitute master gear from said measured value and further by correcting the subtracted value according to an intermediate distance correction value, a measured arithmetic value is obtained.
