Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent deformation of a strip caused by ununiform cooling by a method wherein temp. difference of the strip, longitudinal elastic coefficient and linear expansion coefficient are measured when a deformation amount is reached to a max. tolerance value and a contact length of the strip and a cooling roll is controlled so as to make different thermal stress calculated from average temp difference of the strip lower than a yield point of said strip. CONSTITUTION:Usually, when a width direction of the strip is fixed, extension DELTAL of the strip due to temp. difference DELTAT of longitudinal both end parts is imparted by a formula I when linear expansion coefficient is alpha and a length is L and strain epsilon is shown by a formula II. Further, thermal stress sigma of the strip plate is shown by a formula III (wherein E is longitudinal elastic coefficient). On the other hand, if thermal stress partially generated in cooling the strip by a practical cooling roll is made smaller than a yield point sigmaS of the strip, any deformation of the strip is not generated. That is, the temp, difference DELTAT may by controlled so as to satisfy a condition of a formula IV. As the result, quality deterioration of the strip due to deformation during cooling can be prevented beforehand.
