Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the deformation quantity of fish tails while improving the deformation power in the central part of a plate material in broadside rolling of the plate material, by maintaining both end parts in the press down direction of the plate material beforehand at a temp. lower than that in the central part. CONSTITUTION:After a plate material 1 heated to a prescribed temp. in a heating furnace 12 is removed onto a table 13, it is conveyed on a run table 14 to a broadside rolling mill 3. During this course, the material 1 is cooled at both broadside end parts in a cooler 11, so that it is given the temp. distribution lower than that in the central part of lthe plate width. Then, the material 1 presses between rolls 2 and 2 in that state, whereby it is subjected to prescribed broadside rolling at a uniform draft over the entire length in a conveying direction and a rectangular direction. At this time, the compressive plastic strain of high temp. parts is made larger than that of the low temp. parts and therefore the central part of the material 1 extends longer than the broadside end parts, and if the temp. difference between both is adequate, fish tails are negated by the difference between the both elongation rates and are eliminated.
