Abstract
PURPOSE: To facilitate longitudinal cutting of high temp. slab and prolong the life of annular projecting parts by pecifying the distance between the leading ends of said parts and the peripheral speed of rolls in cutting the slab between the rolls projected with said projecting parts.
CONSTITUTION: A continuously cast ingot 1 of a high tamp. is fed between a pair of upper and lower rolls 3, 3' projected with convergent annular projections 4, 4' of a crest shape in section on the circumferential surfaces, whereby the ingot is shorn continuously. In this case, the distance between the rolls 3, 3' disposed spacially each other, that is, the distance between the leading ends of the opposite annular projections 4, 4', is kept at ≤15% the thickness of the slab 1. The peripheral speed of the rolls in the leading end parts of the projections 4, 4' is kept ≥0.5m/sec. Thereby, the life of the projecting parts is made long and the working efficiency is made better.
