PURPOSE:To control cooling in such a way as to avoid inducing martensite transformation by making the flow of cooling water zero only in the period when the ingot part cast just before the stoppage is located in each unit zone of a secondary cooling zone in performing continuous casting after temporary operation stoppage. CONSTITUTION:While the ingot part 1B cast just prior to stoppage of casting is located in the 1st unit zone 6Iof the secondary cooling zone, the cooling water of the 1st unit zone 6Iis closed to make the flow of the cooling water zero, and the cooling water is supplied to other unit zones 6II-6IV.
