Abstract
PURPOSE:To restrict the generation of flange type over filling at the edge, by giving a strong reduction to the material over a specified length from the biting end, and by rolling the residual length correspondingly to the caliber breadth for the forming pass, and next, by giving a reduction to the material at the forming pass so as to make the biting end to the bite release end. CONSTITUTION:The edging pass is carried out on the material 10 in a range from the biting end 10a to a specified length, about 1m example, with strong reduction of a specified draft percentage, by upper and lower edging rolls 4', 5', of the breakdown mill. Next, the edging pass is applied to the residual length as far as the bite release end 10b so as to make the breadth of material equal to the breadth of the forming caliber of next forming pass. Then, the material 10 is sent into the gap of upper and lower rolls 4, 5, provided with the forming caliber, so as to locate the strongly reduced portion 11 on the side of bite release end at the forming pass; and the material 10 is sent on in the reverse direction as shown by the arrow B. Thus the metal flow intending to form the over filling can be absorbed by the strongly reduced portion 11 of narrow breadth.
