Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (X is halogen or lower alkyl; R is lower alkyl; n is an integer of 1W4).
EXAMPLE: 7-Bromo-1-methyl-2(1H)-quinoxalinone.
USE: Fungicide for agricultural and horticultural use, having remarkable effect to rice blast by the application to the water surface of the paddy rice field. It exhibits prolonged activity.
PROCESS: The compound of formula I is prepared by the lower-alkylation of the 1- position N-atom of the compound of formula II represented as a tautomer. The lower-alkylation can be carried out, e.g. by mixing the starting compound with an alkylating agent such as an alkylsulfuric acid ester, an alkyl halide, etc., in a solvent such as benzene, ether, etc., in the presence of a base (e.g. sodium ethoxide, sodium hydride, etc.) or in an alcohol in the presence of a base (e.g. sodium ethoxide, sodium hydroxide, etc.) at 0W150°C for 0.5W15hr.
