Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect independently the faults of knocking water and cooling water, by separating the output signal of a pressure gauge that detects the pressure change of the cooling water into a high frequency component based on the knocking and a low frequency component based on a water pump. CONSTITUTION:When the rotary driving of a water pump stops, the pressure vibration of a low frequency caused in cooling water in a water room 1 disappears. Then a low frequency component contained in the output signal of a pressure gauge 4 and based on the rotary driving of the water pump disappears, and the signal passing through a low pass filter 16 for detection of a fault of the cooling water does not exist any more. Thus an alarm is produced by a cooling water fault alarming circuit. In case the knocking arises in a combustion chamber, the pressure vibration of high frequency is caused. Then a high-frequency component of the output signal of the gauge 4 and based on the knocking passes through a high-band filter 15 for detection of knocking. The knocking is detected by a knocking control circuit, and the ignition time of an engine is controlled.
