Abstract

PURPOSE:To absorb expansion of an electrolyte caused by the increase of temp. and to strengthen the sealing ability of the electrolyte and to improve the changing characteristics to the temp. of a cell, by allowing bubbles to exist in the electrolyte in an electrocromic display cell. CONSTITUTION:An electroormic layer 3 and an electrolyte 10 are held between a pair of electrodes 2, 5, and electric current in a positive or negative direction is flowed between the electrodes 2,5 and a redox reaction to the layer 3 is generated and bubbles 13 are allowed to exist in the electrolyte 10 at an electrocromic display cell displaying by using coloring and decoloring reaction according to the reaction. As for the bubbles 13, a gas which is stable to the electrolyte such as dry air, nitrogen and argon, etc. is used. The presence of the bubbles results in the absorption of an expansion in accordance with the increase of temp. of the electrolyte and the strengthening of sealing action of the electrolyte and also the improvement of the changing characteristics to temp. of the cell.
