Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent cooling, oxidation and generation of hydrogen of molten metal and to improve casting quality by molding ceramic fibers to each other in a lump shape by means of an inorg. binder, covering the surface with a heat resistant material and covering the entire part of the molten metal with such materials. CONSTITUTION:Many of the covering material for molten metal surface prepd. by covering the surfaces of lump-like assemblages of ceramic fibers wherein fibers are bound to each other by a heat resistant inorg. binder of 0.7-1.4g/cm<3> density with a heat resistant material having no affinity to molten metal are floated on the surface of the molten metal. They suppress the dissipation of heat, interrupt the contact between the molten metal and air, and prevent cooling and oxidation of the molten metal as wekl as the generation of gaseous hydrogen.
