Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a granulated magnesium chloride product having an almost spherical shape suitable for a transition metal catalyst carrier, by spraying an aqueous magnesium chloride solution having definite concn. or more into a spray dryer to granulate the same under a specific temp. condition.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous magnesium chloride solution with concn. of 2mol/l or more is sprayed into a spray dryer to be granulated therein under such a condition that the inlet temp. thereof is about 500W700°C and the outlet temp. thereof is about 170W300°C to obtain an anhydrous or a hydrous granulated magnesium chloride product having an almost spherical shape with an average particle size of about 20W200μm and having formula MgCl2.nH2O (wherein n is a positive integer of 1W3). This granulated product has small surface area and is excellent in spherical shape keeping capacity as well as suitable for the carrier of a transition metal catalyst.
