Abstract
PURPOSE:To hold magnetizing orientation at the initial value, by using plural parallelogram-shape ferromagnetic thin films having the magnetization oriented in the lengthwise direction and connecting electrically the lengthwise end faces to each other by means of a nonmagnetic conductor thin film. CONSTITUTION:An electrode 4 is provided across a magneto-resistance effect element (MR element) composed of a ferromagnetic thin film and vertically to a recording medium. A constant current is flowed to the electrode 4, and the change of resistance is detected for the element 4 by a signal magnetic field of the recording medium and in the form of a change of voltage. The element 4 is obtained by forming a parallelogram-shape ferromagnetic thin film 5 having the magnetization oriented in the lengthwise direction by an etching process, etc. Then the lengthwise end faces of the film 5 are connected electrically to each other by means of a nonmagnetic thin film 6 and then connected to the electrode 4. In such constitution, the inclination of the current and magnetization can be set at 45 deg., i.e., an optimum working point.
