Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a large reproduction output that has a little distortion of a recording signal of short wavelength by widening the width of the ferromagnetic substance thin film of a thin-film magnetic resistance head and by providing the film with slits. CONSTITUTION:For reproducing a signal of 2.5mum recording wavelength, for example, supply conductor 3 for detection current is evaporation-deposited on substrate 2. On it, thin permalloy film (300Angstrom ) for a magnetic resistance (MR) element is evaporation-deposited to obtain MR element 1. Although the width of element is 20mum, three nonpenetrating slits 5 of 1mum in width are provided from the edge opposing to the side facing to the end of substrate 1 nearly at right angles to the electric current path. The tip of each slit 5 is extended to a position 5mum away from the end of substrate 1. Thus, the diamagnetic field of MR element 1 is reduced and the distortion of reproduced waveform is lessened, so that a large reproduction output can be read which has a little distortion of a recording signal of short wavelength.
