Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce variation of potential, to stabilize electrical quantity for developing color, and to extend service life, by using an intercalation substance between a transition metallic chloride and lithium for a counter electrode. CONSTITUTION:An electrochromic layer 3 made of a transition metallic chloride is provided on a display electrode 2 made of a transparent electrode film formed on the inside of a transparent glass substrate 1, and a counter electrode 5 made of an intercalation substance between a transition metallic chloride, such AgCl, and lithium is formed on the inside of a glass substrate 4. In the space formed between the electrode 2 and the substrate 4 an electrolytic solution 8 contgaining lithium ions, and a light diffusion sheet 9 made of porous fluorocarbon containing TiO2 are sealed in.
