Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent any beam current sent form a cathode form flowing onto the extreme end of a cecond grid by applying a negative voltage of -800- -3,000V to an anode during the ageing process of a cathode-ray tube. CONSTITUTION:When a negative voltage of -800--3,000v is applied to an anode 5, and a voltage of 70V is applied to a second grid 6 during the ageing process of a catode-ray tube, the flow lines of a beam current 19 developing from a cathode 8 become as indicated in the figure. Since a highly negative voltage is applied to the anode 5, and the aperture of the grid 6 on the anode 5 side is large, an electric field developing from the anode 5 enters inside the grid 6 so as to deflect the beam current 19. As the result, the current 19 is prevented from flowing onto an ectreme end 61 of the grid 6. Consequently, any activation of an oxidized getter film adhering to the end 61 of the grid 6 is prevented, and any defective straight emission generated during the ageing process can be completely prevented.
