Abstract
PURPOSE:To lower the driving frequency of a horizontal register and a vertical driving frequency, and to attain small-sized, by providing horizontal registers for upper and lower parts, in an image pickup device of inter-line transfer system having a vertical scanning circuit. CONSTITUTION:A horizontal register 401, a charge storage electrode 403 and a transfer gate 404 are provided at the opposite side of a horizontal register 308, and a vertical register arranged at every other row horizontally from a vertical register 307 transfers a signal charge to the register 401. The signal charge in the respective horizontal registers is transferred to charge detectors 309 and 402 with two phase drive of horizontal transfer pulses phiH1 and phiH2 and converted into an electric signal. AS a result, the circuit integration of the horizontal register is halved, the transfer frequency is also halved in comparison with the provision of the register 308 only, allowing to obtain high circuit integration and small-sized. Thus, frequencies fV and fH of the vertical and horizontal transfer pulses are made equal and the vertical and horizontal registers can be driven with the same clock.
