Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a hybrid solid-state image pickup unit of high performance having no disadvatages of XY address type and charge transfer type image pickup units by combining the both with each other.
CONSTITUTION: Area A constitutes an XY address type image pickup unit of MOSFET. Now, when an address pulse is applied to row line 404 of vertical scanning circuit 401. FET403 connected to the row at its gate turns on and charge stored by a light pattern is transferred to column line 405. This charge flows to battery 406 by way of resistances 407 and 407' and voltages developed across those resistances are injected into horizontal transfer register 413 using CCD in area B by way of input gate 408. The charge injected into register 413 is transferred successively by clock signals 410∼412 and then output to output terminal 417 via output gate 414.
