Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate the adjustment of wrapping angles and to cool a steel strip to a target temp. value by providing devices for absorbing the change in pass length and maintaining the constant tension of the steel strip in a cooling zone in proximity to a cooler wherein the steel strip passing therethrough is wrapped on rotary cooling bodies. CONSTITUTION:A tension roll 22 and a deflector roll 23 are provided in proximity to stationary and vertically moving type rotary cooling bodies 19, 20 wherein a refrigerant such as water is flowed. The roll 22 is moved vertically by a vertically moving mechanism consisting of, for example, a motor 28, a speed reducer 27, a shaft 26, a sprocket 25, a chain 24, etc. in the upper part. When a steel strip S is wrapped at the max. Winding angle on the bodies 20, the roll 22 is at the lowermost end and when the winding angle decreases, the pass length of the steel strip shortens and therefore the roll 22 is moved upward. The change in the pass length is absorbed by the vertical movement of the roll 22 and the tension of the steel strip is maintained constant by this.
