Description

(54) METHOD OF CONTINUOUS OR SEMI-CONTINUOUS STEEL CASTING

1one

This invention relates to ferrous metallurgy, in particular to the continuous casting of steel.

A known method of continuous casting of steel, in which the liquid metal during the casting process is kept from spreading by the electromagnetic field and retains the desired shape of the section of the ingot, and below the inductor zone is subjected to intensive water cooling. However, this method does not allow casting of thin billets with bulk crystallization.

According to the proposed method, the metal jet is stretched by an electromagnetic field to a thickness of 5-50 mm at a distance of up to 500 mm from the point of exit of the jet. This allows thin workpieces to be cast at high casting speeds, ensuring a joint casting process followed by rolling.

The method is carried out as follows.

The metal from the casting orifice enters the electro-magnetic device, where the jet is stretched by a magnetic field to a given shape and size and cooled. The regulation of the supply of metal to the electromagnetic device is made by varying the speed of the ingot extrusion.
