Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the temperature of a strip even in its lateral direction, by changing the tension of the strip according to a temperature difference in the lateral direction of the strip that passes through water cooled rolls and controlling the contact of the roll with the strip. CONSTITUTION:The strip 2 in tensioned by bridle rolls 3, 3a installed before and/or behind the water cooled rolls 1. The central temperature and edge part temperatures of the strip 2 in an outlet side are detected by a thermometer 4a and the resulting outputs are input into an adder 5. Moreover, the temperatures of the strip 2 in an inlet side are also similarly input into the adder 5. Both the temperature differences in the lateral direction of the strip 2 in the inlet and outlet sides are calculated and compared by the adder 5, and then the bridle roll 3a in the outlet side is feedback-controlled to adjust the tension of the strip 2 so that a temperature difference in the lateral direction of the strip 2 in the outlet side becomes zero.
