Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a flow meter for suction gas to an engine which prevents the influence from being exercised by electric noise, by a method wherein a vortex generating substance is located in a flow path for suction gas to an engine, and a displacement of a vibrating plate, vibration due to a change in pressure of vortex produced by a vortex generating substance, is optically detected. CONSTITUTION:A line 8 is installed to a suction gas flow path to an engine from an air cleaner, and a vortex generating substance 10 is mounted to the line 8. Openings 14a and 14b, and pressure introducing holes 15a and 15b are formed in the bath sides, being perpendicular to a flow direction, of the vortex generating substance 10, a vibrating plate 20 is located in a chamber 16 connected to the pressure introducing holes 15a and 15b, and the vibration of the vibrating plate 20 is optically detected through an optical fiber 13. Said consitution causes a vortex to be alternately produced at the sides of openings 14a and 14b if sucked air flows through the line 8, and enables a change in pressure to displace the vibrating plate 20 through the working of the pressure introducing holes 15a and 15b. Thus, if said change is optically detected through the optical fiber 13, an amount of air sucked is found.
