Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the accuracy of detection, by providing a higher-mode fiber for a detection section converting variable due to mechanical bending force or vibration into an amount of light and cutting off the light of higher mode produced through the mechanical vibration by means of a lower mode fiber. CONSTITUTION:A higher-mode fiber 24 functioning as a detecting section is fixed to a pipe line 31 with a packing 32 and a fixture 33. A vortex BU is alternately generated at the left and right sides at the downstream of a device toward the flow FL and the fiber 24 is oscillated with a force FO orthogonal to the flow FL. The light in a light emitting element 21 is propagated in the fiber 24 through a lower-mode fiber, the fiber 24 is bent with the external force FO, and the propagated light is converted from the lower to higher mode. The light of the higher mode to be converted is cut off at the lower-mode fiber 22 at the feedback side and the amount of beam propagating the fiber 22 is changed. The flow rate can be obtained with high accuracy by detecting the change in the amount of beam at a photodetector 25.
