Abstract
PURPOSE:To heighten the efficiency of a supercharger, by providing an auxiliary catalytic converter having an oxidizing catalyst just downstream to an exhaust port and by connecting the supercharger and a main catalytic converter downstream to the auxiliary catalystic converter and using the oxidizing reaction of the auxiliary catalytic converter to prevent the temperature of exhaust gas from falling. CONSTITUTION:Exhaust gas having come out of one exhaust port 7 of an engine 1 is immediately conducted into an auxiliary catalytic converter 15 through a coupling 9. Exhaust gas having come out of the other exhaust port 8 is also conducted into the auxiliary catalytic converter 15 through a double exhaust pipe 10. The unburned substances in the exhaust gas are oxidized by the oxidizing catalyst of the converter 15 so that the unburned substances are efficiently removed. The temperature of the exhaust gas is heightened by the oxidizing reaction of the auxiliary catalyst 15. The exhaust gas flows into the turbine 6b of a supercharger 6 and drives it while the heightened temperature of the exhaust gas is kept by the double exhaust pipe 12. This results in heightening the efficiency of the supercharging action of the compressor 6a of the supercharger 6, particularly in the range of medium and high load.
