Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the directivity by bonding a light transmitting resin on a ring fixed on a stem so that the outer diameter of the resin is defined by that of the ring. CONSTITUTION:A plate-shaped ring 8 is securely bonded on a stem 1 in such a manner that the inner diameter thereof is enough to include an LED2 but keeps it from contact therewith. The LED2 is fixed on the stem 1 and covered with a light transmitting resin 3. The size of the resin 3 can be altered as desired according to the outer diameter of the ring 8. The thickness of resin is set at more than 0.5mm. with due consideration given to the viscosity of the resin so as to maintain the given shape minimizing the outflow of the resin applied on to the stem. This upgrades the directivity resulting in a greater connection efficiency with optical fiber, photodetecting elements or the like.
