Abstract
PURPOSE:To raise the heat-retaining capability of a heat accumulating device by employing a mechanism in which a heat medium is spread from the top of the heat accumulating material-packed layer of the heat accumulating device for heat exchange and then recovered in a heat medium trap provided at the bottom. CONSTITUTION:A heat medium is spread from a spreader 9 over the upper part of a space packed with a heat accumulating material, flows down naturally in droplet form in the packed layer, and then is stored in a heat medium trap 10. A valve 12 is opened, a heat medium pump 4 is operated, and heat is stored while heating a solar energy collector 5. Afterwards, the heat energy is held for a given period of time prior to its utilization, when gas and the vapor of heat medium in the heat accumulating device are coagulated as the temperature of the heat accumulating device falls, and thereby the inside of the heat accumulating device is evacuated. Under the reduced pressure, the thermal conductivity of the gas is lowered.
