Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent heat transmission from a combustion chamber to a piston by a method wherein a cavity combustion chamber structure consisting of a low heat conductive material is incorporated with the top of the piston, in the titled piston having the cavity combustion chamber at the top thereof. CONSTITUTION:The cavity combustion chamber structure 11, forming the combustion chamber 14, is constituted so as to be burried into the top of the main frame of the piston 2, in the diesel engine in which fuel is injected from an injection nozzle 7 into the cavity combustion chamber 14 and ignited immediate1y before the upper dead point of the compression thereof. This structure 11 is formed by a material such as cast iron, ceramic or the like having the heat conductivity lower than the same of the main frame of the piston 2 and a flange section 16 is extended to the outside of the peripheral side wall 12 thereof to make it rigid. According to this construction, high-temperature flame self-ignited in the cavity combustion chamber 14 is enclosed by the peripheral side wall 12 and a bottom wall 13, therefore, the heat loss thereof may be reduced, the heat efficiency may be improved and HC, CO or the like in the exhaust gas of the engine may be reduced.
