Abstract
PURPOSE:To contrive stabilized combustion at the time of low load operation and to realize fuel saving, by specifying a squish area to a plane area of a combustion chamber, in a device provided with respective generation devices for a swirl and squish. CONSTITUTION:A suction port 5 is formed so as to give a swirl to mixed gas flowing in a combustion chamber 6 through a suction valve 2 as a swirl generation device, by lowering the port 5 so that the port 5 is deflected to the center of a cylinder on the same plane and an inflow angle of the cylinder on a vertical cross section becomes smaller. On the other hand, as to a generation device of a squish a convex part (squish step part) 7A is formed on the tip of a piston 7, and a squish area is constituted within the combustion chamber 6. In this instance, an area of the step part 7A is formed so that it falls either within 40 - 60% or 10 - 30% of the combustion chamber as shown by obliquil lines A or B, when the squish area is formed either on the opposite side or on the same side of the spark plug 4 to the suction valve 2 and an exhaust valve 3.
