Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable to drastically simplify a driving circuit, by a method wherein the separated length of an ink droplet at droplet formation is changed by the amplitude of a voltage modulated by a picture signal to change the distance between an electrifying electrode and the ink droplet. CONSTITUTION:A wave form is generated by modulating by the picture signal a carrier wave having a frequency which enables an ink column to form droplet, and the change in the amplitude of the voltage impressed on a piezoelectric vibrator 2 affects the separated length L so that the length corresponds to about 1 wavelength. When the distance between a deflection electrode side surface of the electrifying electrode 5 and a droplet forming point is Z and both the electrode shape and the distace of the electrode from a nozzle is maintained to be constant, the relationship between Z and the amount of charge on the ink droplet becomes as shown in the diagram. When the position of the droplet forming point is so selected that Z=Z1, Z2 by changing the voltage impressed on the piezoelectric vibrator 2, the amounts of charge of the ink droplet correspond to Q1, Q2 which differ by a factor of about 5. Since the deflection amount in a deflection electric field is approximately proportional to the amount of charge of the individual ink droplet, a binary-type deflection can be performed by when the charge amount of the ink droplet is changed according to the separated length thereof and Q1 and Q2 are made to correspond to a printing droplet and non-printing droplet, respectively.
