Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the influence of a lift and dust upon a magnetic tape surface, and to improve short wavelength characteristics, by forming space parts, opened on a medium opposed side, at medium opposed parts between respective medium opposed surface of a head core. CONSTITUTION:A head 15 has spaces 16a-16e at medium opposed parts. Consequently, the surface of a magnetic tape 10 is curved in a saddle shape which is projected at cores 2a-2d and recessed at the space parts 16a-16e between guard cores 3a and 3d, and cores 2a and 2d. Since the head 15 comes into contact with the magnetic tape only on the medium opposed surfaces of the cores 2a-2d, an air flow along the surface of the tape 10 during high-speed running increases in coefficient of lateral leakage, reducing the spacing between the tape 10 and head 15. Further, the rate where dust enters between the head 15 and tape 10 is decreased greatly by the space parts 16a-16e.
