Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide the titled composition excellent in properties at a high temperature, by blending pulplike granules obtained by coating and binding magnesium oxide and magnesium hydroxide with a heat-resistant aromatic polymer, organic and inorganic fibers, a friction-adjusting agent, and a thermosetting resin. CONSTITUTION:The following components are blended: (A) 5-70wt% pulplike granules prepared by coating and binding magnesium oxide and magnesium hydroxide (average glanular diameter 0.1-200mum) with a heat-resistant aromatic polymer (e.g., poly-m-phenyleneisophthalamide), (B) 2-60wt% inorganic fiber and heat-resistant organic fiber, (C) 1-25wt% friction-adjusting agent (e.g., silica), and (D) 5-40wt% thermosetting resin (e.g., phenol resin). The obtained friction material composition shows at a high temperature good friction properties, heat resistance and wear resistance, and is useful for use in vehicles.
