Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the frequency of an input standing wave ratio and opening surface efficiency by composing a main reflector of an opening surface slanted forth in a conical or pyramidal shape which is geometically simple. CONSTITUTION:A short backfire antenna is composed of a main reflector 1, a flank reflector 2 which is provided annularly around the outer circumferential part of the main reflector 1 and less than as long as one wavelength of a radio wave, a small reflector 3, and a feeding reflector 4. In this constitution, the main reflector 1 has a conical (or pyramidal) opening with a slanting angle alpha in the direction of the reflector 4. Consiquently, the facing interval between the reflectors 1 and 3 is not constant and a cavity resonance phenomenon is relaxed to obtain an excellent broad band characteristics. In addition, the effect of the reflector is reinforced to optimize the electric-field irradiation distribution of the radiator 4 and the reflector to the circumferential part of the reflector 1, and consequently while opening efficiency is improved, a radiation pattern having an excellent low side lobe is obtained.
