Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the charging efficiency and the cycle life by alternarively repeating the forward charging and reverse charging in a zinc alkali battery while setting specific relation of the charge/discharge current ratio. CONSTITUTION:A zinc alkali battery 9 where zinc is employed as the cathode active subsistance is charged by a charging power source 1, and when the battery voltage will reach to predetermined level it is detected to turn off a transistor 8 thus to stop the charging. In said charging it is charged from said forward charging power source 1 with electric amount Q1 until first voltage comparator 3 will reach to predetermined voltage, then a power source circuit 7 for discharging in reverse direction with electric amount Q2 is connected and said functions are repeated alternatively by a control circuit 2 until said first voltage comparator 3 will function. Thereafter the charge/discharge is repeated with electric amount Q3 in forward direction and with electric amount Q4 in reverse direction to stop the charging at predetermined voltage where second voltage comparator 4 will function. Said electric amounts are selected such that Q2/Q1<Q4/Q3<1, Q2>=Q4.
