Abstract

PURPOSE:To select characters in response to the intension of a writer, by preparing a plurality of character criteria and checking whether or not a selected candidate Kanji(Chinese characters) is suited to the criteria. CONSTITUTION:Through Kana(Japanese syllabry) sentences inputted from a keyboard 3 and a conversion designating symbols to convert the sentence into Kanjis, a controller 1 retrieves Kanjis or phrases corresponding to reading of Kana from a dictionary file of a storage device 2 and displays words with same pronounciation on a character display 4 sequentially. In this case, a prepared character criterion list is retrieved and whether or not the word is coincident with the criterion one by one word. Out of candidate characters, characters not suited to the criterion are informed to the operator with inverted display, and the operator makes corrective operation to return unsuitable characters into Kana through the use of an editing function of the device. Thus, the selection of wordings in response to a writer can be made, the trouble of character correction can be reduced and the working efficiency is improved.
