Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate the maintenance of an evaporating boiler as well as to enable to alter water making capacity by a method wherein utility boilers of a sea water desalting apparatus having plural utility boilers arranged in series are divided into plural groups to make each groups operable independently.
CONSTITUTION: When valves provided to bypass lines 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 16 of this apparatus formed from groups A, B are closed, the groups A, B can be operated. In addition, when valves of a heating steam bypass line 7, a preheated sea water line 14 and a preheated sea water pipe line 16 are closed as well as valves provided to a generated steam line, a product water line and a brine discharge line between a utility boiler 2 and a utility boiler 3 are closed, only the group A is made operable. Further, when valves of a heating steam line 6, a generated steam bypass line 9, a product water bypass line 11, a brine discharge bypass line 13 and a preheated sea water bypass line 15 are closed as well as each valves of a generated steam line, a product water line and a sea water preheating line between the utility boilers 2, 3 are closed, only the group B can be operated.
