Abstract

PURPOSE: To economically obtain titanate as a superior material for electronics by reacting titanium alkoxide with alkaline earth metallic hydroxide to form composite oxyalkoxide and by decomposing the oxyalkoxide.
CONSTITUTION: Titanium alkoxide represented by Ti(OR)4 (where R is a univalent hydrocarbon group) is reacted with alkaline earth metallic hydroxide in the absence of water to form composite oxyalkoxide having MTiO2(OR)2 (where M is an alkaline earth metallic atom; and R is said univalent hydrocarbon group) as a constituent unit. The composite oxyalkoxide is then hydrolyzed or thermally decomposed to obtain alkaline earth metallic titanate. Ba(OH)2 or Sr(OH)2 is preferably used as the alkaline earth metallic hydroxide because the reaction proceeds relatively quickly.
