Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the burning loss and deterioration of a reducing catalyst due to heat of reaction when SO2 in a gaseous mixture is reduced in a plurality of steps after passing the gaseous mixture through a heat exchanger, by properly controlling the temp. of the gaseous mixture in an automatic system.
CONSTITUTION: A gaseous mixture contg. SO2 is heated with a heat exchanger 3, mixed with a smaller prescribed amount of gaseous H2 than the amount required to reduce all of the gaseous SO2 through a duct 5, and introduced into a reduction reactor 1. The gaseous mixture is heated to a temp. enabling reaction by heat of reaction in the packed chamber 24 during passing through the paths 25 from the inlet 21. When the gaseous mixture is passed through the chamber 24 via the communicating pipe 26, it is reduced to generate heat, yet it is kept at below a temp. causing the deterioration of the packed catalyst by the gaseous mixture in the paths 25. The temp. of the gaseous mixture entering a duct 6 from the outlet 22 is detected with a temp. controller 11, and a flow rate regulating valve 12 is controlled so as to regulate the temp. to below a temp. causing the deterioration of a catalyst in a reduction reactor 1' and above the reduction temp. The gaseous mixture is then mixed with gaseous H2 corresponding to the unreacted SO2 through a duct 14, and they are reacted in the reactor 1'.
