Abstract

PURPOSE: To heighten the purification ratio of exhaust gas, by keeping the tempera- ture of catalyst for purification constant by controlling the quantity of fuel improving gas introduced to an intake pipe by the temperature of the catalyst for purification.
CONSTITUTION: A catalyst device 4 for purifying exhaust gas is mounted on an exhaust pipe 3 of an engine 1 while catalyst 5 for improving fuel is filled into the catalyst device 4 through partition walls 4b. A rear portion of the device 4 and catalyst 5 as well as the catalyst 5 and an intake pipe 2 are communicated by conduits 6, 9 for recirculating exhaust gas, and fuel is fed to the conduit 6 and the intake pipe 2 through pipes 7, 7' by means of a fuel pump 8. An improved gas flow rate control valve 10 is mounted on the conduit 9 while the opening and closing of the valve 10 is controlled by means of a controller 11 receiving the signals of a temperature sensor 12 for catalyst 5, an oxygen sensor 13 of the exhaust pipe 3 and an air flow sensor 14 of the intake pipe 2, thus controlling the quantity of exhaust gas and improved fuel, which are supplied from the conduit 9.
