Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the starting characteristic of the titled engine and to control the consumption of a heat generating wire by a method wherein the space between the heat generating wire and a metallic sheath is filled with a heat resistant and heat insulating powder produced as a result of pulverizing a molten body consisting of berylia or boron and silicon carbide. CONSTITUTION:The space between the heat generating wire 3 provided in a sheath type heat generating body 2 and the metallic sheath 4 is filled with the heat resistant and heat insulating powder of a mixture of a chemical compound containing beryllium and silicon carbide or of a mixture of boron or a chemical compound containing boron and silicon carbide. Further, the metallic sheath 4 houses therein the heat generating wire 3 and an electroconductive center shaft 5 and the diameter of the sheath 4 is reduced after the heat resistant and heat insulating powder 6 is put into the sheath. With the above structure, it is possible to improve the starting characteristic of the engine by improving the heat transmission rate of the glow plug sharply and to use the heat generating wire 3 for a prolonged period of time.
