Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize a fine recording pattern and to improve recording density by shaping a circular spot of rays of heat into a crescent and then irradiating a vertical magnetic recording medium with it by a device which writes information by utilizing the Curie point of the medium. CONSTITUTION:A circular spot of rays of heat from a heat-ray source 11 is modulated by a modulator 12 by using a signal which corresponds to information to be recorded, and shaped into a crescent or half-moon spot by a filter 13 in a prescribed shape; and the spot enters a condenser lens system 15 through a reflecting mirror 14 to be condensed into a fine spot, with which a vertical magnetic recording medium 16 is irradiated. Since the irradiation part is heated approximately up to the Curie point, its coercive force is reduced and the magnetism is inverted in the direction of a bias magnetic field 17, writing the information in the same shape with the filter.
