Abstract
PURPOSE:To decrease generation of a faulty screw in the vicinity of an end part, and to save material, by providing a surplus length part having a diameter being smaller than a root diameter, on the tip of the shaft part of a material, and forming a thread by a thread rolling die. CONSTITUTION:As for a material 1' of a valve rod, a surplus length part 10 is projectingly provided on the tip of a shaft part 4' on which a roll threaded screw is formed. The diameter of the shaft part 4' is almost equal to the effective diameter of a roll-threaded screw, and the diameter (d) of the surplus length part 10 is a little smaller than the root diameter of the roll-threaded screw. Also, on the surplus length part 10 of the shaft 4', a chamfered part 11 having a suitable angle theta is provided. In case of thread rolling, the material 1' is set to a thread rolling device, a thread rolling die is pressed against the material in the direction falling at right angles with its shaft core, it is moved in the axial direction, and the thread is formed by a well-known method.
